Born seven years ago in a rural country setting south of Chicago to a litter of seven brothers and sisters I was welcomed into a home that was only to be temporary. Similar to child custody litigation I was unfortunately used as a tool during a hearing that lasted over two years making National headlines. During this time I was held despite repeated pleas from my rightful partner from any contact. After two years, countless hearings and a long struggle, I am now two years older yet back with my rightful owner.
Pepper now lives with his rightful owner where he enjoys daily hikes, frequent travel, and hogging the bed wherever he lays his head.
Despite numerous similar cases heard in other States for pet recognition, shamefully your pet is viewed as a table, lamp or other similar inert "object". Under Fourth Amendment rights, people are not aware that animals are still considered "property".
From this, "Peppers Bill" was created and can use your support as it moves forward in the Illinois General Assembly not only changing the laws for our pets yet recognizing them as living breathing beings placing the best interest foremost.
